When you think of projection televisions, what comes to mind? Well, there are basically two options. The first, a front-projection television, is essentially the type of system you would expect to find in any theatre. An image is projected onto a screen from the front of the screen. When you’re watching a movie in a theatre, and you see that bright beam of light flashing over your head from the projectionist’s booth, what you’re basically seeing is the picture being projected from the booth onto the screen. You can by smaller-scale front projection televisions for your home, and the projector can be placed on a table or mounted onto a ceiling.
The second choice of projection television is rear-projection. This works using the same concept, only the projector is located inside the TV set, and projects the image onto the screen from the rear. This allows you the choice of a large screen television in your home without a bulky set, as would be required using an old-fashioned CRT (cathode ray tube) television set.
The choice of which projection television you purchase is up to you. While a rear-projection television is easy to use and doesn’t require you to mount a projector, a front-projection television will allow you the choice of expanding or reducing the size of the screen onto which you project the picture, as the projector is independent from the screen itself. A front-projection television system can also be a great space saver as you can choose, if you want, to simply project the images onto a clear wall instead of mounting a dedicated screen.
